WORSHIP IS INTER-ACTIVE... DIFFERENT PEOPLE PARTICIPATE AND THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU CAN SPEAK AND OFFER A PRAYER REQUEST OR HOPE, OR SHARE A NEED.  YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN IN!

  • In January and February we are paying special attention to the issue of racism in our society, and fostering conversation about how to talk with one another about being "antiracist" in our persective

    Sunday, Jan. 10  - We Begin showing short (3 min.) videos called "Understanding Racism.”  One video in each worship service through Feb. 28th.   Sermon:  “No Other Gods.”  Ex. 20:1-6; Mark 1:4-11.


    Sunday, Jan. 17 -  “What Leads to Holiness?” (commandments 3 & 4).  Exodus 20:7-11; John 1:43-51.


    Sunday, Jan. 24 - Topic:  “Why We Honor Our Fathers and Mothers.”   Exodus 20:12; Matthew 10:34-39.  Our PRAISE BAND plays.


    Sunday, Jan. 31 -  “Little Murders.”  (commandments 6 – 10).  Exodus 20:13-17; Mark 1:21-28. 


    Sunday, Feb. 7 -  Holy Communion.  “Food Wars.”  (We look at a justice issue that especially affects the African-American community each Sunday in February, in honor of Black History Month.  Justice issue:  food deserts.  Isaiah 40:21-31; I Cor. 8:1-13.  CONGREGATIONAL BUDGET MEETING AFTER worship.


    Sunday, Feb. 14 - New Member ceremony.  II Kings 2:1-12;              Mark 9:2-9.  “Whose Glory Did You See?”  Justice issue – the importance of African-American history to all Americans.


    Wednesday, Feb. 17 -  Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 pm.  Rev. Asayo Okumura Thomas and Pastor Noel each share a brief 5 minute meditation.  “Rend Your Heart Not Your Garment.”


    Sunday, Feb. 21 - First Sunday in Lent.  Rev. Asayo Okumura Thomas leads worship.  


    Sunday, Feb. 28Genesis 19:8-17. Mark 1:12-15.  “A New Flood."  Justice issue - environmental racism.


    Sunday, March 7 -  Holy Communion.  Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16; Mark 8:31-38.  “What’s in a Name?” Justice issue – cultural racism and the right to be named as we wish to be named.
