Paul L. Johnson has served as organist/choir director/handbell choir director at the Community Church of the Pelhams since November 1983. He has also worked as a musical director in over 150 productions in Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, and regional theatres and in cabaret revues.

He is a composer/lyricist, having composed the scores for Cowboys!, Tango Masculino, Nile Blue, The Three Musketeers, TRUMP, the mu$ical, Boys, Boys, Boys, The Green Game, You Never Can Tell!!, Madam, Pot of Gold, and The Man Who Studied Fear. He has also written music and lyrics for Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears, As You Like It, The Perfect Plot, and The Princess and the Pizza. He also composed and recorded the score for the documentary American Carny.

Paul has written over one hundred vocal songs for the church as well as nearly two hundred pieces for the organ. He recieved an OOBR award for his work on Cowboys! and Tango Masculino and received a MAC award nomination for "In Heaven, They Sing Nothing But Showtunes," a comedy song for cabaret. He has most recently returned from a successful engagement in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, where he was honored to conduct the world premiere of WHERE ELEPHANTS WEEP, a khmer fusion opera, incorporating rock, rap, pop and legitimate musical styles.
